The Wedding

She was the first to be married and she carried her wedding dreams close to her heart. She would gather all the wildflowers and make the bouquets and her sisters would wear their shower curtain dresses all a different creamy sherbet color. Her present to each sister would be a string of pearls. The twins of course would get a triple strand. They are so spoiled. It was their idea to stand on each side of the bride.

A Winner

First of all, thank you so much for all the wonderful gushing comments. I loved reading them just like I knew I would. I read them all more than once. I'm still trying to get around to each blog to thank you. I should have never saved them up to do all at once. But I was in such a painting mode with my new sister painting that I thought I would wait. Big mistake. But I will get around to each and every one of you if you have a blog.
I have a winner and here is how it happened. I know I said I would draw a name. But how would you know if I did or didn't? I have never done that number generator thing and didn't want to figure that out. I didn't want to number all the comments. I didn't want to spend time writing down the names to draw. I didn't want to print and cut the little slips to draw. I didn't want to follow the rules and so on and so on and sooooooo,
When there was just enough comments, and realizing that I simply did not have enough time to do any of those other methods, and wishing I had enough sisters to send one to each and everyone of you, I had a grand enough plan.
So, I went back and read all the comments again. Looking for one word. Did I give you enough clues?
Sure enough, one person had used "my word for 2008" in her comment. Therefore, she is the winner. And here is her comment:
Would be a blast to be lucky enough to have a beautiful piece in my home."
There is a second place winner, who made a comment and then also sent me a sweet email. It was while reading her email that said, "..... and I can't tell you enough how your work inspires me!..." It was joanne who has a blogger profile but not blog. That was my inspiration to look for the winner who used my word for 2008.
I'm just saying, that's how our brain works. Our being mine and Norah'S. The wedding party picture with the bridesmaid is well underway. I just had to show you this little snippet. You know they all wanted to be in the picture with there shower curtain dresses and wildflower bouquets. So it is taking me a while to finish. You know I will show you when I do.

Sharon

Sunday Stroll

............................in Paradise

Yes, I live in a fantasy land. Even if sometimes it's all in my head. Let me tell you what is fun is when the two collide and overlap in layers just like a beautiful collage.
I will be brief today because I have a wedding to prepare for. Oh you know, it is a fantasy wedding. But I have gathered this beautiful bouquet for the sisters to carry.

Standing under the tree eating plums is one of my favorite things to do. Unless I were under a lemon tree licking lemons with sugar sprinkled on. With a friend.

Now what?

Well, I wanted to remind you to visit the Seven Sisters post and leave me a comment so you will be in the drawing.

Seven Sisters

Here they are. Seven Sisters ready to scatter all over the world. They will each leave with a little piece of the "big house". You know, the way you take your memories with you where ever you go. Oh yes, they also each take their "butters". For how can you go anywhere without your dreams.

I will work on listing these before I start the twenty paintings that swirl in my head. You see I received my new supply of canvases yesterday. Oh Boy!

One more thing, I expect to be painting a few more sisters to send out into the world. I'm just saying, if you feel lucky and would like to take a chance on receiving a sister in your mailbox, then all you have to do is leave me a wonderful, gushing, crazy comment. Cause I love um.
Enough,
Sharon

First Day

Of My Three Day Weekend

I'm just checking in before I get back to my new sisters that I started this morning bright and early. I actually like to work on 4 at a time but this time 3 was good. I had to stop and do some not art stuff. And I also managed to get some new items listed at my little Etsy store. Through the weekend I will stop and do that and will list these when I finish them. You know I will come and show you first though.

Hey, I thought to tell you that since I have been painting at my new desk, I have been using an old worn out towel under my work. I really like it better than what ever else I have tried. It doesn't move around and I love having it there to blot my brush on. It keeps me from blotting on my chest or leg or sleeve or...

Enough,

Sharon

Tagged

Tammie Lee has tagged me. She so kindly told me that I didn't have to respond. Cause I gotta tell you that I'm not to good at this kind of "meme".

But I'll play.
If by my own rules cause I can't help that little thing about meme. So you'll find all the real rules and stuff at her blog.

Ten years ago??
I swear it wasn't memorable because I can't think of a thing to tell you about that. I was right here at this same desk but not playing art. That's a pity!

I'll be careful with my "to-do" list cause you know how I am. If I write it down then I have to do it. Here is one thing on my list for today. I'm going to watch the 2 hour last episode for the season of Gray's Anatomy. What a steamy place to escape to for 2 hours.

If I was a billionaire, I would invent a time machine.
Enough said.

Good grief, you want to know my "bad habits".

Ok, the worst one is I eat too much. And while I'm eating, I think about not eating. I think about how I'm going to quit before the next meal. The whole time between meals, I'm thinking about how I'm going to resist bad foods and only eat good foods. Then it is meal time and it all starts over again. Enough.

Places I've lived. Most of my life right here in central Texas, although not in this city. I was born and raised in the next county over. But I have lived in the Dallas area twice and on the Gulf coast once. I've lived here for 26 years. I have lived for almost 64 years.

Jobs I've had are really not interesting. I'd like to think about what I'm going to be when I grown up.
I think I'm going to be an artist. If I could only grow up.

Thank you Tammie Lee for shouting out to me with this little meme.

What do you think about this? I used fabric, fibers and paper beads to finish off the stapled edge.

Pretty cool? Now it is hanging in the gallery and ready to be listed.

Enough for now,
Sharon

New Sisters

Four new sisters are getting ready to leave. You know like they left in December. Except in December they were angels and at that time I didn't realize they would come back for a Sisters Reunion. This time I know.
I'm hoping to have more than four ready to list by Saturday. Here you see I've played a little at my desk. I had these little blocks left over from December and this bunch of sisters will leave with a little piece of the big house, you know it's like taking your memories from home. And of course, their dreams go with them everywhere.

Then, at some point, they will come back for another Sister Reunion.
Enough for now,
Sharon

Sister Visit

"Follow the Leader"
The Sisters Reunion continues.
They still have so many memories to share.
On this day they talked about one of their favorite games and decided to go to the garden and play.
She always got to be the leader but that was OK, they loved her for that.
They dreamed so many dreams while in the gardens. I guess that is why their dreams are always right there just like a beautiful butterfly flitting about and landing on their sleeve.
One more thing. About the little queen, well one of her fondest memories from home was always dreaming about growing up to be a queen or a princess at the very least. She was always pretending.

Pure White

I sit here thinking about my weekend and how quickly it has come around again. I'm thinking about all the paintings that wait in my head for my time and energy to come forth simultaneously. I'm thinking as I always do on Friday afternoon that I will go home and start painting immediately and yet when I get there with the time, it is the energy that I wait for.
Usually, it is before daylight on Saturday morning that it happens. You know I will show you.
Wishing all a very Artful and fun weekend.

Sharon

Tagged

Alyice tagged me and somebody tagged her and I'm suppose to tag you. But first ....the rules

The rules of the game are:

1. Link back to the person that tagged you.

2. Post these rules on your blog.

3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.

4. Tag six people at the end of your entry.

Six unimportant things about me: Well there are a lot of unimportant things about me and they are so unimportant that I'm having a hard time thinking of them.

1. This one I thought of tonight while cooking a wonderful shrimp pasta salad. I'm a counter. Before calling dh to eat, I was spooning up some of the salad for my lunch tomorrow...one-two-three-four-five...it's about at this point that I wonder why I'm counting? I do this when making dots on my art. Like the dots around the corner of the mail art. One-two-three-four-five....why the #($#() am I counting for? (mailed those out earlier this week)

2. OK, right now I have on a red Hilfiger shirt ....and no bra. My evening attire.

3. My toenails need cutting but I would rather paint.

4. Here's one. Unimportant to you but not to me. My electricity bill this month was $91.27. Much lower than usual. I'm not sure what we are doing without.

5. My face relaxes in a frown. Well not a frown but sad because my eyes and mouth both turn down. People ask me what's the matter. I gotta remember to smile. I actually am a happy person.

6. When I'm in my car, I'm the only person on earth. I see no one, recognize no one cause I'm not looking. My family and friends know not to wave cause I never see them.

Oh dear who to tag......Oh I know, some of my recent commenter persons...Thank you, your tagged.
Go girls!

My Modigliani

Are you ready for this?
Did you try it?

Please overlook the funny wavy lines.

I don't know what that's about.

Did I tell you I got a new camera?

Jolt ahead.....

She made me do it.

OK, that was fun. I will finish tomorrow.
And then I think I will do it (Modigliani challenge) again and tame the colors a good bit.

What I really enjoyed was painting without a sketch.
That was a great challenge.
You should try it.
I will be up early tomorrow. So,
Enough for tonight,
Sharon

Did you paint today?

Nice day

I have been wanting to make a round in all my journals. So, here is a new page in the Ashley Journal. She is such a princess.
*
I did this early this morning and have been playing with photos and prints ever since and we don't necessarily enjoy that. As a matter of fact Norah's quite antsy to get back to painting. So we will.
*
But first one more thing...

My triptych came back home this week from Cloth Paper Scissors.
I was so happy to see it and I must say, I'm still very pleased with the work. You know sometimes when you look back at your work, you wonder what in the world.....
Well I photographed it and made a set of prints and they really are beautiful. So later this evening I will list some prints at etsy. But right now, I have had enough of this computer and we have to go paint.
Enough for now,
Sharon

Friday

Countdown.....

60 minutes to go for me. And then ...
Let the weekend begin!
*
I'll be painting and you know I will share. I plan to do the Modigliani challenge for one thing.
*
These two new Folk Art colors just jumped into my basket this week right off the sale rack. You know me, I have to use my new stuff quick so I did a little art-at-the-desk. I mailed out two of these.
Love those colors.
Enough for now,
Sharon

Gallery Update

Here is an update to this post where the Big Project started. The Gallery has been a huge success. Thank you again for all your wonderful comments to that post. I had no idea that it would be so well received. I had more comments on that post than any other. (hey I still read them over and over) Notice that the gallery is nearly empty. Thank you gallery shoppers. The little block place holders are nice but I wanted a way to show my prints and fill some of these spots. So here is what I did.

I think you will like my remedy too.

You recognize this acrylic box frame.

On the back of the insert that holds the print in place, I cut out a square that is a little bigger than the block place holders.

Then I folded the flap in and glued in place.

So here is the gallery wall with some prints on display.
But..........

I didn't like the white edges of the inserts.
So I took them outside, stacked them up and spray painted the edges black.
A quick 5 minute fix.

Looks better, yes?

And.....

Do you recognize this print? It is the cover to a gift journal I made last year. I'm thinking of offering it as a print in my shop.
If you click on the photo, it should take you to the set of photos from this journal in flicker.
Did you make a gallery wall at your studio yet?
I hope so.
Enough for now,
Sharon

Inspiration

This is on my desk calendar for this week. I find is very distracting because I would rather be at home painting.

It is Gypsy Woman with Baby, painted in 1919. Oil on Canvas by Amedeo Modigliani.

If you are inspired and feel like a challenge, how about this one.

Do you notice how it appears that Modigliani under painted the canvas with a blue and then when he painted the figure, he left some of that showing. I JUST WANT TO DO THAT.

So, that is what is on my mind. What's on yours?

That and all your comments which you know I love and thank you for. I have not made the blog rounds in the past few days but I'm working on it.

Enough for now,
Sharon
