Cabinet of Curiosities

Art Curiosities

Inspiration

She is my muse, my mirror, my right brain, my inspiration. She is the Rose of Sharon. Norah'S presence has been with me for quite a long time. However, I only recently realized that she is my muse. She is where the inspiration comes from. I think she soaks it up and when it's time, just spills it out.

When Bonnie posted prompt 5 I knew immediately what the starting point would be for this page. The photograph. I haven't told what I have been doing with these photographs. It was an Art Curiosity. In a nutshell, I am printing photographs onto 100% cotton paper and then using acrylic paints to over paint them. Why would I want to paint a photograph. Well don't ask me...just curious...still am....will be doing some more....you should try it if you are curious.

OK, do I look 62 in this bit of art? I don't think so either. That would be because I have painted away the wrinkles and age splotches. But I did leave the gray hair.

I have lots of new folks in my audience. And oh how I love that. And oh how love when they leave me comments. One ask who is Norah? So for all those new to me....read all about that here in this post...Who is Norah

Valentine Gift Journal for maryb

Another page for Mary's valentine book.

Let me just say that Blogger is still making me say )@#($*)#(@$) bad words @)#($*)# when trying to upload pictures. No I still can't do it. But.....

I guess I showed them. This morning I set up a flicker account. Something I have intended to do because I want some Moo Cards like everybody else.

When I get more photos moved there, I will share that address with you. OK

Tip of the Day

Remember on this post where I said:

I keep an old book handy right beside me to use when it is time to clean
the brush. I first wipe the brush on a page until no pigment comes off and then
I dip (I don't swish) it into my water jar and paint a page with the wash of
color. Very little paint gets wasted. Then I swish to clean the brush. You never
know, on another day, I will need just such a piece of paper for a collage or
whatever.

OK, my Tip-Of-The-Day for today is: After using a stamp, especially those little foam ones that seem to slurp up that precious ink, go to one of your color washed pages (mentioned above) and stamp and stamp and stamp until it won't stamp anymore. You never know, on another day, you will need just such a piece of paper for a collage or whatever.

Sharon

PS Do you enjoy seeing the clutter that surrounds me?

maryb

Here is another page for you.
Yes, I really like this one. I think maryb will too.

Valentine Day Parade of Elephants

Here you go maryb. This is the last page of your little Valentine Art Journal. I'm still working on some other pages. It will get to you before the big day.
I promise.

Back In Business

I am so excited!! I can show now!! I have so much to show so I will start with this one. I believe I told you I was prepping a book to make an art journal with that I will be donating to our Library. I believe I also said something about norah'S presence with me Saturday. She had me hopping from thing to thing. Her brain does that sometimes.

Well anyway the point to this picture is to show how I sandwiched back into the book some pages that I had removed. I did three or four of these and one flaps up at the top and the others flap open at the side. Norah'S help was invaluable as I always want to do this but don't remember.

Very briefly, because a new commenter person ask for a little more information on how I prepare a book. Everybody does it a little different but I usually remove two pages between every two that I glue together. Don't remove all the way to the spine. Leave a little and glue it down. I use glue sticks or Mod Podge (for paper) to glue the pages together.

Now here is very valuable information.....The only place I use Mod Podge in an altered book is to glue pages together. I have learned the hard way. Do not use it on the page. I have learned this lesson over and over and over again. Take my word for it.

Sharon

Oh dear, what is that thing about doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome......thank goodness for norah'S help....she is my muse you know.

norah'S here today

HAPPY BIRTHDAY My Friend Terri

Norah'S here today and boy of boy she's got me hopping form one thing to the next. I have about 4 things going but I did get this one finished. I was on another project and she said, "put it down now" and follow me. Well all I can say is "I did. Thanks norah. I'm very pleased with the card. I seriously didn't have a clue until that moment. I wish you, norah, would do a little house blessing sometime." She said, "not today".

I'm prepping a book to alter. I'm making one of my gift art journals to donate to our public library fund raiser. Kinda cool I think because I got the old book from the "discard stack". Now I'm blessing it and giving it back for a silent auction. You know I will show when I have something to show.

I'm also playing a little more in my little heART Valentine journal before sending it on it's way to maryb who won. I'll show you some of that later today too....the Valentine Day Parade of elephants is almost finished.

The rest I'll tell you about....
Later,
Sharon
