This is my crayon challenge and I used my big girl colors for the first time on a face. Some of you ask, and they are Caran D'ache NeocolorII watersoluble wax pastels. Like I said, big girl colors.
I used them exclusively without a sketch. Instead of using water with them, I used Golden Matte Medium which renders them permanent once the medium dries. This is only about 3 1/2 inches square and I am going to use it on a journal cover.
I doubt we will catch up on the January challenge but will carry on as best as we can. I say we because we (my muse and I) had a huge fight and we have been pouting. We cannot be creative when pouting. This has happened before and I can never figure out who is on which side. It all started when in an earlier post I said, "I am also challenged with my grunge journal to stay as dry as possible. In other words no paint." I don't know maybe she said that. Whatever!
Expect,
Sharon
O.M.G. ! Sharon--this is beautiful! no: Amazing-Gorgeous! And, did I mention that I really LOVE it? Thank you for the tip about adding medium to the crayons. . . I NEVER would have thought of doing that.

she's great! lovely layers and depth. please show the journal she's going on when you're ready!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you and muse, Norah, have been at odds, but glad to hear you got together long enough to produce this beautiful piece. Maybe she will cooperate more with you now since she has seen how well you can work together. Thanks for the tip about using the medium with the crayons.
ReplyDeleteLove what you did! I used good old Crayola's-lol! I am going to use my big girl crayons and do another, I love your tip about gel medium. I had always wondered. Do you know if acrylic glazing liquid would work also? It has a longer drying time is why I'm wondering...must go play
ReplyDeleteHa ha you make me smile...I am glad you picked it up and went for it....I and my muse like to see your art....we are happy!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I have some of the same crayons. I really like the depth of color they have.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful Sharon. What a gorgeous face you did. You continually amaze me. I hope you and Norah make up...

I second or third the kudos about adding the medium to the colors...I have a set of BG crayons i have been hoarding and I am determined to start using them. The image is so much larger than the size you stated! Really nice.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what this struggle between you and Norah produces, Sharon. This piece is wonderful. I think it
ReplyDeletes time for me to struggle with my own muse, who has gotten a little complacent. Perhaps some of my own crayon d'arch and gel medium?
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTake Norah out to lunch or have Norah take you out to lunch. :-)
Really like the results of your "Big Girl Crayons":) I love using oil pastels.....one of my favorite mediums.....
ReplyDeleteThe big girl crayons look great on your girls face... I hope that muse of yours is behaving herself.
ReplyDeleteNo pouting! Your muse is a wonderful gift, but you may not agree sometimes, just do your thing, she will get over it, I just know she likes what you have done.
ReplyDeleteI have never worked with crayons...I will read what you have said and see if I get the methed.
So beautiful!
