ANNOUNCEMENT

All Norah'S Art, my Ning classroom network will be closing July 31, 2015.

Before that happens, I want to offer all of my current online classes at a huge discount starting now!

All classes are discounted at least 50 percent. You can access class information by clicking on the page buttons above or by visiting my classroom network: All Norah'S Art.

*************************************

I have made a huge decision about my Ning classroom network.
You may or may not know that Ning has and is changing their ways.
I have had plenty notice of this and plenty of time to consider what I wanted to do.

However, the decision has been very hard to make.
Big decisions are always hard for me and I typically swing back and forth from to-do or not-to-do.

Even though I have had many great ideas for new workshop offerings, I just haven't had the energy or I should say passion to go forth with them.

I have finally realized that this decision hanging over my head is stifling my energy.

So, once and for all, I made the decision to give up my Ning network at my annual renewal day of July 31, 2015.

I decided to go out with a bang!
A bang of offering all the classes for the next several months for a huge discount.

You will find all of the class descriptions and paypal buttons on the Main page of All Norah'S Art, as well as, here on my blog pages.
You can click on the class buttons in the top page heading or by clicking on the picture icon of each class in the right sidebar.

Audio about Signatures

While changing all the paypal buttons and making sure the classrooms were in order, I came across a bit of audio that I added at the end of one of my favorite classes, Faces In Collage.
I'm sharing this snip of audio today with you because it is something that I feel really strong about.
(hopefully, the audio embed works)
If you are reading in a reader, you may need to click over to the blog to see and play the audio.

Important change announcement

My swing made with an old bedstead by my father who passed away in the early 1980s
for my mother who passed away in 1991.
The swing back is the headboard and the sides are from the footboard cut in half.
I will be brief with this important information.

As you may or may not know, Ning, the site where I host my online classes, has announced
changes.

In addition to various formatting changes, they announced a new pricing structure based on number of members. The formatting changes give me some concern as to the way I present my classes; however, I am more concerned about the new cost to me as the creator of allnorahsart.ning.

First, let me say, I love my class site and I am not moving from Ning.  I am committed to staying at least one more year to see how it all works out.

I'm sharing this for the following reasons:
To let you know
  • all classes are still available and will be for at least one more year.
  • I have purged all members who were not enrolled in a class.
  • the home page is invisible and not accessible unless you are enrolled in a class.
  • if you are interested in a class, click on the tab at the top or the class icon in the right sidebar of my blog for class information and paypal button.

Online CLASSES

I look forward to new students, so if you have been holding back because of the Ning changes, know that nothing is changing for me for at least one year.

What I got for my Birthday and a Ramble

It was yesterday. And what a fun day on Facebook. Have you had a Facebook birthday party? Amazing! I loved every single message. I was trying to respond to each but I'm afraid that got out in front of me and then I couldn't even find some of them. It was crazy good.

My DH honey brought these to me from the pasture late in the day. You may not know they are Passion Flowers.  I thought that was pretty special. He is too. Did you know we will celebrate 50 years this month? Yep, we've almost made it.

I think I got an Apple iphone too for my birthday. If that's the case, he got one too for my birthday. It was a little early (last Friday) and I guess that's why I didn't realize it was for my birthday. That thang sure is smart. I'll tell it to call you if I know your number.

My kids and grands were all here on the weekend and they didn't say anything but I think that was a birthday party too. We mowed, cut bushes, cleaned gutters, washed windows, and ate GP's grilled chicken and store bought pizza. Brownies for breakfast too! That's a party! Of course, I mostly directed all the work cause I'm on a few little restrictions after having eye surgery a week ago. The restrictions aren't too bad. No mowing, cutting bushes, cleaning gutters washing windows or cooking. The Doc said so. Oh and the bonus is, that dirty shower door I've been looking through has been cleaned and the world is clear as glass now.

My two bestest friends here in town both brought by wonderful gifts. They always do. I love them. The friends and the gifts.

Middle of the week holidays are good but I sure wished there was a holiday provision for Wednesday holidays. I mean, when that happens we should get the whole week off. Right? I need the whole week off cause I'm working real hard to be ready for A Diary of Faces that will start Monday. That's what I plan to do on my one holiday day. That and maybe design a cover for my iphone.

If you haven't signed up yet for the class, you're gonna miss one whoppin hugenormous class. Registration will close Sunday the 8th. Don't let the door close before you get in.  A very-nice-super-fantastic-group is waiting for me to open the door which was planned for Sunday. I might have to open it a little sooner so there isn't a traffic jam getting in.  Of course there are no assigned seats and plenty of room in the back and the front. No dress code either and bad hair days will go totally unnoticed. Thank goodness!

A Secret included here

Oh how I adore Madge Gill!
I knew when England came up in the Postcard Challenge, I would be trying one of hers.
I have been inspired by her work before
This time, I felt challenged to actually go with pen and ink.
Must tell you how relaxing this was.
You should try it.

Here is a little secret.
The last seven pages in my Postcard Challenge are included in my new class,
A Diary of Faces.
Don't miss it.
Registration ends July 8th.

A Diary of Faces

A DIARY OF FACES
A video and audio workshop recorded diary style.

This class is about keeping an art diary for the painting and study of many different faces.  But wait! It’s more than face painting.

Inspiration for this class
I have a vision for this class.  I want to share the study of painting faces in a slow methodical and organic way by inviting you into my studio most weekdays for 18 weeks to follow along with me or to just be inspired to go forward with your artful journey.

I have had this vision on my mind for just about a year now. But the inspiration that has pushed me forward is my Postcard Journal that I started earlier this year. This journal became my Diary of Faces and I will be continuing it as my part of this class. If you haven’t seen it, visit my blog page, “Postcard Challenge 2012”.

My vision for you:

  • Daily inspiration and motivation to paint beautiful faces
  • Many tips and techniques shared
  • Study feelings and emotions in faces
  • Learn to enjoy sketching faces
  • Lessons in painting hands and hats and hair and backgrounds
  • Learning to slow down and enjoy the process
  • Record lessons learned in your Diary of Faces
  • Research to help you discover art that has meaning to you
  • Study a bit of art history
  • Discovery of “your style”
  • Practice
  • Interact with other students
  • Support and encouragement
  • Learn from trying new products and techniques.
  • Being brave with experimentation.
  • Both you and I working toward improvement
  • Learning from our mistakes
  • Enjoying an art journey with me
  • Sharing ah ha moments
  • And in between moments too
  • Creative growth (feeling it and seeing it)

More Specifically:
We will search the internet to discover works of art by painters from over a hundred years ago. We will learn to scrutinize their technique while trying to replicate the work in an art diary. You will be amazed as your diary grows with all the different faces. In addition to painting in the diary, I’m sure we will be inspired to splash paint on a canvas or two or more.

After the first several weeks, (already recorded) the class will progress organically in real-time, meaning daily segments will be produced and shared as they happen in my studio.  Also meaning, I will respond to student participation with videos and audio recordings as needed.

This class will be what ever you want to make of it.  I hope you want to join in the daily art conversation; however, if you just want to watch and listen I guarantee you will be inspired and anxious to come each day to see what is new.

Supplies will be what we have in our studios plus an old book to paint your Diary of Faces in.  Of course I will share what products I use but you are encouraged to use what you have and add to your supplies as you wish.  I mostly use Golden mediums and paints because that is what I have.

What you get in this e-course
Specifically:
I will be posting most weekdays for 4 months (18 weeks).  Post will be in the form of video, audio, PDFs, photos and or narrative. Posts will be informative and inspiring.

In addition to my posts, there will be a place to communicate with me as well as other students. There will be a gallery for you to post your works of art in and receive support and encouragement from all of us.

Class will be presented in a private “group” at All Norahs Art, my Ning network.

Please note:  Due to the diary nature of the class, time will not permit me to give the in-depth critiques that I offer in my other e-courses. Never fear though, because I will be right there to answer your questions in a timely manner.

Who this e-course is for
Whether you are a beginner, an accomplished artist or crafter, or somewhere in between, this e-course is for anyone who is looking for creative growth.

More specifically:

  • Anyone who occasionally needs extra motivation
  • Anyone looking for inspiration
  • Anyone who knows those little shoulder demons that whisper discouragement in our ear
  • Anyone who is mesmerized with faces
  • Anyone who needs to have a paint brush in their hand
  • Anyone.

Please Note:
Due to the diary nature of this class, registration will be closed when the class starts and there will be an end date to this session. However, students will have unlimited access after the end date. You are encouraged to receive this vision at the pace you are comfortable with.

FAQ’S
Q:  Will you be offering this class again?
A:  No this is the ONLY time I will be offering this session.

Q:  I really want to sign up but I will be on summer vacation. Will the class group be open after the class end date?
A:  The class “end date” is when I stop adding content.  You will be able to continue at your own pace indefinitely after the end date.

Q:  What do you mean by “organic“?
A:  By organic, I mean the class content will evolve and grow with time. The content will be produced and presented following real-time progress with my Diary of Faces.

Q:  What do you mean by “diary style?
A:  Diary style means I will be adding daily content in small segments consisting of the progress I create during my morning art period.  In addition, diary style means we will use a diary or journal in the form of an old book to record our face lessons with pen and paint.

Q:  Is this class like your other classes?
A:  No, not really.  All of my other classes were filmed and ready before the class was offered.  The content was known to me before the class opened.   Also, this is the first class offered with a registration end date.

Q:  Do I have to be at my computer at a certain time each day?
A:  Actually, I will have to be at the computer every day; however, you can pace yourself and go as fast or slow as you like.  You can come and go and watch the videos as many times as you need, meaning you don’t have to be anywhere at any given time to make it to the class.

Q: Will the class include PDFs?
A:  Yes! Some of the class content will be offered in the form of
PDFs. You may save and print them to keep as references.

Q:  Will you offer a DVD of this class?
A:  No, that is not in my plans at the moment.

Q:  Can I download your videos.
A:  No

Q:  Should I be nervous? Are you nervous?
A: You should not be nervous?  Me on the other hand…..yes I’m nervous about the “organic” “diary style” part of the class. Those little shoulder demons are whispering stuff about that. But my excitement about the class  definitely is bigger than my nerves. As I push to do something new and exciting, I push the demons aside.  I am anxious and can’t wait!

I’m thrilled to be offering this e-course, excited to meet new artist and anxious to renew friendships with those who have taken my other e-courses.

If you still have questions: email me at sktomlinson@gmail.com.

Momentum Motivation and Mojo

Do you loose it?  Sometimes I guess we all do.

Here is how it works for me.  When I feel the momentum of some "great" inspiration start to slip away (usually just because of not enough time), then the motivation goes and goes and goes until finally I'm wondering about my Mojo.

I don't know why this comes to mind this morning. It has little to do with anything.  Because there are two things I want to tell you about......no three things.

1. I'm going to discontinue "open registration" of my first online class, "Faces: All Norah'S".  This DOES NOT mean the classroom will be closed and students will no longer have access.  It just means that I think the class has run it course and even though new students come in monthly, it just isn't fun for me because they are all so quiet when it is a small group.

SO, If you want to register for the class, "Faces: All Norah'S", now is the time.  I will leave the registration open through this month and close it after May 31st.  Don't worry about access to the class because once you are there, you have as long as you wish to enjoy the videos.

2. I'm working on a new class and all I know to tell you about it at this point is the name of the class will be "A Diary of Faces".  How about you tell me what a class with that title means to you.

3. I want to share with you a new online class site that I think many of you will be interested in. Ann Passmore has set up a Ning network called Image Artistry.  Ann is very knowledgeable and skillful with Photoshop Elements and that is what her classes are about. And get this!  She is offering a beginner session free:  Join up for a FREE first workshop from the 20 May for six weeks to get started with Photoshop Elements.  Although it's to get beginners up to speed you might be surprised at what you learn and the Challenges should be fun!

All you need to do is go to Image Artistry and sign up to join her network and then you can join her free group.

You might also like to visit Ann's Blog by the same name, Image Artistry to get a look at some of the things Ann does with PElements.  I think you will like it.

That's what is on my mind today.

Goddess of Sea and Earth

Goddess of Sea and Earth

The second group of videos were added early this morning to Faces in Collage. And all my wonderful students are knee deep in collage papers and faces. Goddess of Sea and Earth was the subject of today's videos. The creation from start to finish is all there.

It's not too late if you would like to join the group. You would be so welcomed.

Feeling Gratitude

silly me profile pic today
Today, I'm feeling gratitude. I am so full up to the top grateful for the excited group of kindred sister spirits who have gathered to enjoy my new class, Faces In Collage.

I'm already getting great reviews after the first group of videos.  Like this one from Kate,
Sharon, I am so happy I am taking this workshop! So often I never know where to start and I can see the magic in this process. I am getting ready to go over my stash. My husband always teases me about all my loose magazine images. He just doesn't get it! Happy, happy I am in this class!
".....I can see the magic...."  that's my favorite part.  Because it does feel like magic!
Thank you Kate and thank you to all of my students. And thank you to all of my blog followers too.  I am so grateful for all of you.

It Starts TOMORROW

this is me today. it's a crop from a
larger piece.  I call the crop
"big mouth"
I'm already having so much fun at the workshop, Faces In Collage. And class hasn't even started yet.

If you are as confused as I have been, you will be glad to know that the Start Date is TOMORROW!  It seems that I have posted conflicting dates and my wonderful students set me straight.

Yes, we are already busy talking and interacting.  And that is the fun I'm having.  Each morning, I have been adding a little early morning audio just for fun.  And I have been changing my profile pic each day. More fun.

If you haven't already joined me, I hope you will. OK, I'm going to ask. Will you join me where "images inspire the story"?

What a Great Question

In my haste to announce Faces In Collage, I do believe I left some things to your imaginations.  There were several questions and I would like to address them here and now.
1.  How long will I be able to register?  Will you be closing registration?
As with all my classes, once I open the registration, I don't close it. That means, if you can't jump in right in the beginning, you can sign up any time after that.  Anytime.
2.  How long will the class be available?
My classes have no end date.  This means the class material and videos will be there for you to visit and watch when it is convenient to you.  If you have a conflict after signing up and can't get back for three months, it will all still be there.
3.  When can we get the supply list?
I'm hoping that I will be able to send out the classroom invitations today.  The supply list is one thing that is holding me up mainly because it is so short. I know. Makes no sense.
4.  Will we be able to download the videos?
For now, I don't plan to make download available.  But you will have access to them for an indefinite time period in the classroom.
5.  Do you plan to offer a DVD of the class?
At the moment, no.  But I'm still on the fence with that and so as they say, never say never.
6.  Is the class interactive?
This is such a great question.  And yes, I do consider all my classes interactive.  And I feel like the interaction is so convenient because it is all within the classroom.

One thing I do that I think is a little different in my classes is the Gallery(forum) that is within the group/class. I encourage the students to share there finished pieces as well as "in progress" pieces. Then I give them a gentle critique or answer questions they might have.  I try to do this early in the morning and easily spend as much as 30 minutes on each critique.  When I say gentle, I mean constructive in a teaching way. Then the other students are there to give support and encouragement.  I also have my forums and comment walls set so you can get an email with the full text and don't have to POP over to the site if you don't want to.   I encourage students to "follow" all the class forums because there is a lot of information shared through interaction.  The class is very organic in that way because a lot of knowledge is shared through interaction as the class progresses.

So if you have a question that I missed.  Please do ask.  I will answer them in the comments.  But if you want to email me at sktomlinson at g mail dot com.

Thank you for the great response to this course.  I promise it will not disappoint.

New Class Announcement

 Class Name:  FACES IN COLLAGE
Cost: $ 68..00
Registration:  Open
Classroom Invitation:  November 1, 2011
Start Date:  Friday, November 4, 2011

I continue to be obsessed with faces and painting faces and now, I have added collage to the mix.

This is a mixed media workshop about painting collaged faces and discovering that the collage images inspire the story. It could be a story that you have no idea you are going to paint. When that happens, the thrill is huge and that is what I hope to share.

Additionally, I want to share with you how I got comfortable with all the collage fodder and where I look for more and how I organize it.

Most of all this is about painting collaged faces.  I demonstrate using metallic paints for flesh as well as other paint media.

The class is full of videos demonstrating my painting techniques from start to finish; it is all there.

The supply list is short and is available on the main page in the classroom

**************************************************
Hey beautiful artist,
The classroom is not quiet ready for you.
So, you will not receive the class invitation email until November 1st.
Then the videos will start on Friday November 4th.
The videos will be offered over a three week period.
Thanks to everyone who encouraged me with this project.
I ♥ you!
I appreciate you!

I believe I haven't done a good job of telling you about my
Did you buy a set of Inktense when they first became the rage?
And then did you set them aside not knowing just how to use them?
Or why they were so great?
I'm guilty too.
I think I had them two years before I realized the one thing that set them aside from all other water soluble pencils.
The secret the hold is they become permanent when dry!!!
Of course Inktense was not put out there to use primarily on fabric.
But, what fun I discovered when playing with them.
This is a "mini" class because all the face painting videos are from the
Tree Castle Apron Class
which is still available.

There is no sewing in this "mini" class.
And even though my technique is for fabric, I can think of several fun ways to use your fabric art.
I'm hoping to have time to make a textile wall hanging and incorporate a piece.
I'm going to incorporate some faces in quilts I'm working on.
I'm going to make some of those too.

Why is this a "MINI" class?
♦ It only cost $40.00
♦  The supply list (shown below) is minimal
♦  It will travel with you on summer vacation very easily.
and
♦ The big class, Tree Castle Apron included a whole lot more sewing and pattern instruction video and fun PDF patterns.
I look forward to you joining the class.

p.s.     I have DVDs ready to go.  Order now and they will ship today.
p.s.s.  thank you to all who have ordered already.
p.s.s.s.  thank you to all who encourage me with your words. xoxo

Too Much

I have so many things going on right now that I can't even be still in my chair.
Wiggle wiggle wiggle.
Do you do that?
I will first list them.
Then maybe I can calm down and actually tell you a little more about them.

  1. I'm ready to take orders for The Lesson on DVD. (See DVD Shop tab above)
  2. I have listed my first Mini ECourse.  (It is the Face painting videos of the Tree Castle Apron class.
  3. Well, there is this project (above)
  4. I have added a video classroom for students who took Of Towers and Turrets.  You should have received a message from the group.  If you did not, please go to your classroom for the info.
  5. And the painting I'm still working on.  But that's at home.

Now, I must tend to this desk and do some Friday chores.
So happy about a three day weekend.

The Build Zone

As you know, my friend, Deryn and I are running a Second Session of our class Of Towers and Turrets. Registration is open now and the session starts on April 1st.
But, did you know my friend, Deryn has a class called The Build Zone that is still in session?  I am taking her class and these pictures are from my first efforts.  While watching her videos, I took detailed notes and then went to the table and tried the techniques. I kept practicing until I thought "I got it".
I was very anxious to design my own piece of jewelry using a focal from Of Towers and Turrets.  But jewelry design seemed to come slow to me.  Here is what I learned; I think it felt so unfamiliar and difficult to me because I don't wear jewelry.  And I have resisted making it and learning how to make it for various reasons. But I'M HOOKED!!!
Here is something else I learned;  I'm also hooked on making little sketches of the planned piece.  I discovered this while at my desk in town with the box of elements and beads all laid out in my design.  I was so frustrated that I couldn't be at my desk at home putting it together.  And thinking I would never remember the layout. I started this little sketch and Oh My! What fun that was.
Now at home, I can follow my sketch step by step.  As it comes together, I can make little changes if I want.
This is the beginning.  I will work a bit more on it today but the weather here is so beautiful that I think I will also go outside and work in my gardens and yard.
Enjoy your weekend,
♥Sharon
