A commentary that flows in WIP

This week has been really busy. I have been busy doing a lot of nothing and I have been busy doing a lot of some things. Still, I can't seem to stick with this painting for more than a few minutes at a time. When I'm doing nothing, I want to be painting and when I'm doing some things, I want to be painting and when I'm painting, I don't want to be painting. OK, you get the idea. I'm going loony! And have very little fight left in me.

Thank you to the person who suggested heat from my ailing back. The chair zone is now equipped with a heating pad and I have found that the place to be.

So, today I started to share a few minutes of this painting and decided to just show the progression of the floral on this ones head along with the commentary that flows through me and to the canvas.

  • Know that there is not one square inch of the 30 X 40 canvas that I consider finished.
  • I like the floral tissue that I used on the right side (see earlier post).
  • I didn't want to use the same pattern on all 4.
  • But I did want to use the same colors.
  • The first picture above is where I left off in the last post. I painted over the area with a green. I swear, I don't remember what that was. I just wanted to block some of the red. Now, I'm thinking I would be happier if I had used white as I did on the first one on the right.
  • In the second picture, I scrubbed in Golden fluid acrylic Green Gold and Jenkins Green.
  • I'm not trying to get complete coverage in any parts of this canvas.
  • Then I decided to use the same tissues as used on the right side but instead of tearing medium size pieces of tissue, I cut squares/rectangles approximately 1 inch and glued them over the area. Picture three.
  • The colors were there but I didn't like the scale of the tiny patches of color.
  • So, about 15 minutes before I had to leave to do some things, I picked up a brush and squeezed out some paint and painted a few brush stroke flowers. I'm sure I will tweak this some more but I'm pleased with the results so far.

I have a couple more post scheduled like this. It is my intention to share weather you want me to or not.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
I don't want to play the Facebook game any more. I'm still gonna be there sharing some things. After today's post, I'm not going to link my blog post over there as I have been.

I hope if you are interested in seeing my shares, you will follow me in some other way. The web has become too tangled for me. Enough.

I need to simplify.

  1. I am grinning over here...I have had a love hate relationship this week with painting! My husband was out of town all week, so I decided to do a big clean and re-organize my studio...which inspired me to paint, and paint, and paint. I am painting over old paintings I no longer like. Which makes for great texture...I painted two I like...the rest are crap!
Nothing got done in my home...and there is not an inch of my body that does not hurt!!! I won't do that again!

Painting is an interesting process to say the least!

Looking forward to hearing and seeing more of your journey with this piece.

    1. Hi Mary, I have been watching your re-organize. I was wishing I would do the same so I just did the 5 things game I play. Maybe today I will up that to 7 things since I never left the chair yesterday.

  3. Hi Sharon;
I fully understand your struggle with your painting... I go through this a great deal and I find that I get bored really fast. I do love what you shared though.
I also understand about the web becoming too tangling for you... it does for me too. I have cut my blogging time down and have been trying to concentrate on my art.
I love every piece of your work.
    Hugs and blessings

    1. Thanks Kelly, I'm probably getting bored with this painting too. By that I mean, I want to be finished with it. This reminds me of when I was oil painting and spent days and days on one painting. Because you could. Now I really love the acrylic because it dries fast and I'm realizing that this painting is like working on 5 paintings just because of the size. Well probably more just because I fiddle and keep changing my mind or following Norah'S lead. She is the one! Or maybe it is because I can't seem to stay with it for very long at a time.

  5. Ahhhh yes,the incomplete moment of the artist I believe is called "what the Hell am I doing"? Hence forth we need to have a glass or two of wine, reconsider what we're doing or trying to do and maybe have a third ! Suddenly it will all fall into place when at my age (soon to be 68) I'm not so sure it matters anymore!
BUT............I am still trying for my masterpiece and hopefully that will get me through to 90!Perhaps by then I will have FB figured out as well!!

    1. Amy you make me laugh. I had to think a moment if I actually have that "what the Hell am I doing?" thing. Did not want to admit it but yes it happens. But more than that I sometime think I know what I'm doing and think all I need to do it just pick up the brush and load the paint and just let my hand do what my brain tells it to do. I can't even explain this feeling. It is like having some sort of gigantic confidence and faith that I can.....be a big fake-a-roo.
Please say I'm not the only one with this illness of fantasy.

  7. Oh my goodness, Sharon, your big painting is awesome! I admire you, I have never done one that big. Love all your colors, are you liking the Matisse paints?

    1. Yes Karen Kay, I do like the Matisse paints. They are very opaque with a loaded full brush or you can scrub them out too. The one thing I can tell you is they look very chalky on the canvas and in the end I will paint a layer of Golden gel gloss. I like the paints all evened out on the canvas. There is an area on this canvas where I have already added that to see how it looks. Yes looks good.

  8. Really like this. Once again I have to thank your for sharing your process. For me the "how" is as important as the finished project. As for FB - I so rarely go there. Blogging is enough.

  9. Hi Sharon...enjoyed going through your posts this morning and catching up on what you are doing. This large painting is so wonderful...they seem to be straight from a classic novel like Henry James Portrait of a Lady or something like that. Lovely lovely lovely. Sketching on the cello wrapping is just a great idea...I have not seen that done before.

    Have a great Sunday.

  10. Thank you Lisa, Sketching on the cello first was probably my muse Norah'S idea. I give her full credit.

  11. Hi Sharon! Wow this is looking so amazing! I love the intensity of the color you have happening, but whatever you end up with will be perfect, I know. You are a huge inspiration and I will come to your blog to catch up on what's going on. Is the Facebook thing where funky comments come onto our blogs, like spam stuff? I have been getting a lot lately and I don't post very often. Just curious if that is what you are talking about. Thanks for the comment on my new painting.:) Hugs!
