Back to painting faces

One Hundred Faces
Modigliani reference and No 25 beginning
They all start out pretty ugly.
This portrait in profile of Modigliani's common law wife, Jeanne-e-Hebuterne gives understanding about his long nose style.
Don't you think?

I could not see the 'a' until viewing the photograph.
I could see the little red poppy.
I just knew that I liked very much what I could see.

TGIFriday's Girl

Here she is.
TGIFriday's girl.
Another itsy-bitsy one.
She is along the right edge where there is a column of 13 place in a 12 inch space.

Hand challenge

One Hundred Faces
Dime Size Face No 22
One Hundred Faces
Faces in the scheme of things
You ask if I am painting directly on the board or if I'm painting the little papers and then glueing them down.
I glued all of the random size papers onto the board first.
The format is very similar to Hundertwasser's piece,  #134 Ninty-Nine Heads.
I am painting the faces in a random order moving around on the board.

I believe I mentioned bordom yesterday.
That just always means I must try something different.
I challenged myself with this tiny hand.
Love it!

Don't Mind Me

Yesterday was a good day.
For the first time, I painted two faces.
I guess that means my plan "to get me to the art table" is working.
The fact is, I fear I am getting bored with my project and though
I won't quit, I do think of ways to speed up.
Like painting two each day.
Or maybe three each day.

One Hundred Faces
Face No 20
Faces 20 and 21 as well as several others are crops of Modigliani portraits of his common law wife, Jeanne-e-Hebuterne.

Face No 21
He painted her so often.
Obviously, she is the one with the long nose and tiny eyes that influenced his style that we recognize.

Don't mind me, that's just me and my opinon.
That is the kind of mumbling that goes through my head while spending an hour and a half painting a 3/4 inch square portrait.
One or the other proves my insanity.
The painting. Or. The thinking.

I am a showoff

LaComeitte Brushes
Yes I am.
A showoff.
Well, you know I always love to show off my new toys.
The same day I bought the new small Sta-Wet Palette,
I bought 5 new brushes.
They are tiny tiny.
So far my favorite is the 1/8 angular.
That's because I always love angular and buy a 1/4 every time I go to Michael's.
Actually, I like them all. My least favorite is the top one.
18/0 round for detail.
So far, I haven't found the success of it.

Face No 19 is 3/4" by 1".
That is why I needed tiny tiny tiny brushes.
They do make a difference; however,
No 19 is in that top row above the red area and was so difficult to paint because of where she is on the board.
Just awkward.

Today, I will paint No 20 and since there are 10 more in that top row, that's where I'm going.

One Hundred Faces from Sharon Tomlinson on Vimeo.

I made this video when I started the Facebook Group, One Hundred Faces.  It is just a bit of an overview of my project.

If you want to join in at the Facebook group, everyone is welcome. Of if you want to just do it and tell us in comments here, that's great too.

I have a new Sta-Wet

Do you believe I've made it to number 18?
I can't.
I haven't painted one every day but from the beginning I gave myself permission to skip if I needed to.
Recently, I did feel myself getting close to that wall where I just want to turn around and lean against it and slid my self down and sit there.
Yes.
Sit there rather than hurdling over it.
I didn't jump over it but I did walk around it.

Modigliani reference and Sta-Wet Palette
Do you remember me telling you about the big new Sta-Wet Palette?
Well I did; however, I don't think I ever came back to tell you that I pretty much hated it.
I didn't tell you that because I didn't think I gave it a chance.
I loaded it up with paint and then didn't paint.
That doesn't work.
It gets smelly and waste a lot of paint.
But in fact, it was just too big and cumbersome for my space.
I couldn't figure out how to get comfortable with it.

Imagine my surprise when I was at Michael's last week and saw this smaller one and snatched it right up.
I wasn't surprised to see it.
I was surprised that I had to have it.
Anyway,  I have used it on these tiny faces and so far, I love it.
Could be because I'm painting just about every day.
I know it is because the size fits me.

Just in case you are wondering,
I am showing the face at the top small because it is more like the actual size.
Then showing large at the bottom so you can actually see it.
I really do like this one.

Ooops I Did it Again

One Hundred Faces
No 7 and No 17 from same Modigliana reference
It is much fun to paint again and again from the same reference.
Oh well, anyway, I like it and I also like them next to each other.
