Garden Journal

I have a really cool store bought garden journal that I have had over 10 years. The very cool part is that it is divided by months and there are several pages for each month. So, this is the first gardening I have done or journaled in the month of August. The leftover blank pages for each month are then used the next year and the next year. I date each entry and it is really interesting to read back to see what I panted and when. I also make quick sketches to help me remember what I planted and where and write down the germination period and days to harvest as a way to watch what should be happening.
I have found a little balance, OK three days might not be balance, but I am happy about doing a little gardening. More on that in another post.
Expect it,
Sharon
PS For details of what I did, just click on the photo. I left it big......I think
PSS Yes, I'm on the couch again.

  1. Hi, Sharon! I grew up on a farm and the arrival of the Park catalog was almost like Christmas. That was when all my garden dreaming and planning started. Of course, I also set the house on fire trying to germinate some tropical seeds with a warming cable under the flat! If you should ever try that, don't let the cable cross itself!!! Good memories (since it was a small fire).

  2. Nice to see you gardening, it is a thing that can be done while other thoughts pass in one's mind. You can grow things all year?

I did a planting of things that can go until late Oct or early Nov.
Lettusce, radishes, spinach, and kohlrabi. Every year is idfferent so who knows. I am in the gardens a lot.

It would be so fun if I had every journaled about the garden and the years of doing it. Not a good discipline for that, I tend to journal when I am angry or worried and sometimes sad. I always ad some art mine or something I have found here or there. they can't be saved no one needs to know what I said.

  3. You know this "gardening journal" does double duty....creativity and organization!!! All well and good, but it also gives you exercise from the physical planting process, food for your table AND food for your soul!! You're the best, as I always tell you! Now, let's see....I need a book like that...creativity, organization, and getting me outdoors...yeah! take care, friend! pat

  4. I have a large flower garden in my backyard and half the time, I can't remember what I planted where until flowers come up! I need to be more organized like you. A journal..what a great idea!

  7. What a lovely idea to keep a garden journal, it makes me want to start one straight away, infact I think I shall start it will taking some photographs of my garden today,1st September, then perhaps on the 1st of every month, the photgraphic evidence will help jolt the old grey cells.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea....It might also inspire my art work.... as well as make the veg plot better organised.
